When do you think you should tell kids about the birds and the bees? Do you think you should separate the conversations b/w changes a body goes through and then, later, the purpose for those changes? Or, should the information be given all at once?
I knew all about it by the age of 5. I plan to do the same with my kids. As they get older you can get into more age appropriate stuff, but I feel you should cover the basics as soon as they start asking.
I don't know what I would consider the perfect age to be, but I do know one thing for sure: I want my kids to find out from me, not from other kids at school. I think as long as you keep the information age appropriate (i.e. not too graphic), you'd be okay.

I think a 3rd/4th grader can handle talking about bodily changes. Then, I'd wait about a year to talk about the purposes of those changes. Give them some time to adjust to the first information before giving them more.
My family was always open and used the proper termanology. Because of it I am very comfortable with my sexuality. I plan to do the same thing with my kids.
I think you should do the two talks seperately. It is a lot of information for kids to absorb all at once. I would think ten is a good age to give them the body talk and then maybe the birds and the bees around eleven.
