When do you start decorating for Christmas? We always start the weekend of Thanksgiving. But, growing up, my mom didn't start until a week before Christmas.

I put way too much effort into decorating for it to only stay up for a week or two. So, I start the day after Thanksgiving. We don't usually put up our tree until the second weekend after Thanksgiving, but that's the final piece of the decorating puzzle!

Usually it's as soon after Thanksgiving as I can swing it. I insist on having the house clean before decorating it, so sometimes that holds us up for a few days or more.

I'm pretty much the same as everyone else-shortly after Thanksgiving. But, it drives me absolutely nuts to go into stores at the end of September and see Nutcrackers and other Christmas decorations up. I know it's all a part of marketing, but I'd love to see them wait until after Halloween at least.

I have to admit it-one of my favorite things to do is go to those Christmas decorating stores that are open all year. I don't go all the time, but if I'm in a new city and shopping and come across one, I'm all in!

Hi, ladies. I, too, insist on a clean house before decorating.  Usually the day after Thanksgiving, we do a "fall" cleaning.  Depending on the need for clean, it can be a couple days before it's time to unpack the joyous trimmings!  We don't put up our tree until 2 weeks before Christmas because we usually get a live tree.  The Douglas Fir tree is AWESOME for making the house smell green!  We also leave our tree up until the first weekend after the new year.

I agree with most about the too-early marketing.  When I was a child, I remember waiting for Gimble's Department Store to transform overnight on the day after Thanksgiving.  The store would have Santa and an eye-catching wonderland in the window.  That's when Christmas started.  I remember small shops and boutiques, but today it's all about the mall.  Now, it seems cheapened by commercialism.  For me and my family, we have talked about how it's hard to get into the true spirit of the season.  Maybe I'll blog that topic for further discussion...
