My mom was just diagnosed with diverticulitis. Any ideas what that is?

Tis inflammation in these little pouch thingys in the large intestine if I'm not mistaken.  But don't hold me to this.

Yeah, that's basically it. Pouches form in weak places in the intestines and colons. Many people have it and never know about it until they have something like a colonoscopy for something else. But, if one of the pouches gets infected, you'll definitely know about it!

I have heard about this but I didnt know what it was till now.  Is this a painful thing to have or is it just irritable?
