I was just wondering...can two people who are asexual have a romantic relationship? Or, do you think sex is necessary for a romantic relationship?

I don't think it's necessary for absolutely everyone, there are probably lots of couples in that situation and it workds well for them. I think were most relationships run into trouble there is when both of the partners are not asexual.
But, is sex a necessary component of romance? I think that to say yes would be putting the cart before the horse. Sex is more often than not a by-product of romance and great sex is almost completely dependent (although I will admit there are always exceptions to the rule) on the strong romantic bond between partners.

Hmm... mentioning Reading Rainbow in the same conversation as sex...Anyway, I totally think two asexual people can have a romantic relationship, mainly b/c I don't really equate sex and romance in every situation. Holding hands is romantic, and wouldn't an asexual couple do that? Or, maybe I'm confused by the term. Anyway, I do think that aside from asexual relationships, sex in a marriage or long term relationship isn't necessary, but it is a good barometer of how your relationship is going.

I completely agree with galpal. I guess that's just another way of saying "yeah, what she said" but I'm wound up from work so there ya go.
Oh, and I swear that lumping sex and anything even remotely related to public broadcasting into the same conversation is not a habit. At least not that I'm aware of. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go watch 3,2,1 Contact..........

Hmm, this is an interesting topic alright. I don't know how this would even begin to work, but now I am wondering if there is some sort of documentary on it. I would be interested in watching that.
