My daughter is taking piano and I just wanted to let you guys know what her incredibly genius teacher does. Rather than having an agonizing recital at the end of the year that everyone has to sit through, she has a Christmas party. It's a drop in and every student is assigned a time to play. All the parents bring a Christmas goodie to share and everyone eats while their child is taking his or her turn playing a selection of Christmas pieces.
Wow! What a relief that must be! Not only do you not have to sit through it, it eliminates an end-of-the year activity that makes May such a scheduling nightmare. Very good idea!

What a wonderful world
I hated sitting through music recitals, the younger the more painful. I mean, I know little Johnnie is cute and all but I dont need to hear every new note he has mastered as he goes along. I think every teacher needs to have that kind of concert, might even take some of the pressure of the kiddies too.
