I made a very disturbing observation the other day. We don't have trash pick up in my area and so I have to take my trash to the county dump. While I was there, I noticed a recycling truck dumping all of its good that are supposed to be recycled into the regular dump pile. When I told my husband this, he wasn't surprised and said that this happens a lot. Has anyone else ever heard this?
In my region, we have a totally separate service provider for trash removal and recycling. Our dumps are separate, and there is a recycling facility right next to the recyclable dump. You can actually take tours of it! Really cool and GREAT to take kids to see. Really, it is!
That's really a relief to hear. Maybe it's just something that happens in my relatively small little corner of the world. I just wish our area was more committed to it-recycling was the one way I really felt like I made a huge impact on the environment.

Old Glory
A lot of places have trouble with their recycling centers but most of what we send there gets recycled. After all, they make more money off of recycling it than they do throwing it away.
