What do you do with your old books that you don't want anymore? My mother-in-law has tons and tons of old paperback romance books she doesn't want anymore. What can she do with them? She definitely doesn't want to throw them away.

Normally, I would say donate them to a school that doesn't have many books. But, since they are romance novels, that probably wouldn't fly! She could sell them on eBay, but she wouldn't get very much for them. Her best bet may be to donate them to Goodwill.

I have donated some to goodwill in the past, but when I need some cash I will take them to a used book store and sell them.  Usually they give you a flat per book rate, with as many as it sounds like you have that might be a good option.

I give them away to people in my freecycle group.  It s a neighborhood recycling group.  People offer up things they can't use anymore and this way we keep things that are still good but we dont want anymore out of the trash.  At the end of the year I fill a box with all the books I dont want and post them for anyone to come and get.

I leave my old paperbacks at the train station book swap.  They have a rack for books that anyone can take and read on the train and return, or not, when they get back.

Most of the time it is filled with crap books but everyonce in a while there are some good ones.  I have noticed that whenever I add my books to the rack they are usually all gone by the end of the day, so that makes me happy.
