What do you think are the most important things to teach kids about credit cards? They seem to be a necessary evil this day in time. But, I want my kids to know how to use them rather than abuse them.

I think it is important to teach them to use any form of credit only for things of lasting value. I think there is a very short list here:education, house, and maybe a car.

I wished someone would have told me about how to manage my credit cards and interest.  I got in so much trouble with my credit cards and opened up so many because everyone wanted to give me one.

That included store cards as well and they are probably the worst ones to get in trouble with.  I dont know that I will keep any credit cards anymore, probably only use debit cards.

I guess I was kinda prepared for credit cards and credit by the time I was ready for the responsibility--  or given the responsibility.  Actually, the first thing I did when I hit eighteen was get a checking account and a couple credit cards so that  I could go shopping.  Not the most responsible thing, but I kept myself from getting into too much trouble.
