I keep seeing all these headlines about the country heading into a recession, but I am not really sure what all that means. 

Is that bad just for big businesses?  Or is it like the market crashig like it did during the depression?

How is this going to affect me?

A recession is just another word for depression.  As in The Great Depression.  I think a recession is a little on the lighter side though.

A recession is before a depression.  The market tends to be a squiggly.  It goes like ~~~~~ it has it's ups and downs, and the downs are recessions.  This one happens to be a rather bad one though and in my personal opinion is borderline depression.
