I know I read somewhere that baking soda is supposed to work. I think my mom used toothpaste to clean tarnished silver and it made it shine, try one with baking soda in the toothpaste.

Ketchup works too. Just glop a little on your jewelry and rub with a soft cloth. Use an old toothbrush to get into filigree or behind stones. Be gentle if your piece is delicate. Rinse with water and dry it out.
