I have never seen so many foreclosures before and it scares me.  I was looking on a realty website for a house that just sold in my neighborhood.  It is down the block and they have the same size lot and house size as we do, wanted to get an idea of what it went for since I am thinking of selling.

I couldn't find the information I was looking for, but the number of foreclosures just in my neighborhood is amazing.  Ten in the subdivision.  How did it get this bad?

Yeah its a real crisis.  There were too many bad loans made because there wasnt enough regulation.  As a result tons of people are defaulting because they were given loans they couldnt afford.  And worse....they got put into adjustable rate loans. So after a few years their interest rates JUMPED and their monthly payments jumped.  Imagine having a mortgage of $1400/month and barely being able to pay that...then imagine it jumps to $2300/month.  There is no way that works, and thats what happened. :-(

I have a friend who just bought a house with her new husband and after only nine months they lost it.  They thought they could afford it but that wasnt the case, especially after she lost her job.

Tumbling tumble weed

I saw this special on the tv a few weeks ago about people getting so desperate and not wanting to lose their houses that they burned them down.  Bad thing is the fire dept is seeing more and more of that so they know what to look for.
